Some aerobic bacteria in aquariums generate nitrates, mainly because of the distribution of feed. Hence, frequent changes of water are inevitable because the accumulation of nitrates can be noxious for the inhabitants of the aquarium.
The biological denitrification – elimination of the nitrates by living organisms – is the best means of fighting against the nitrates.
